In November 2005 I was called to Slidell Louisiana in the wake of hurricane Katrina as one of 950 volunteers to help care for over 1900 animals rescued by Noah’s Wish a non-profit animal welfare organization existing for one reason, to rescue animals during disasters.
  I worked long days in extreme heat and humidity, but my discomfort was nothing compared to what these poor animals had just endured.   It was our job to make as comfortable as possible and care for these displaced frightened homeless, confused, orphaned, animals. After 12 hour shifts of cleaning cages, walking dogs, and comforting the frightened and lonely, daylight turned into darkness with most nights ending in tears of exhaustion and gut wrenching sorrow that no matter how much you do, it just didn’t feel like it was enough.
  After this life changing experience, I knew I wanted to offer more to these heroic grassroots animal rescue and adoption organizations.  Besides offering my time to become a trained volunteer for Noah’s Wish I also wanted to give back to this non profit group financially as well as to other local animal charities.  But since my day job wasn’t going to afford this, I needed another way to raise funds. 
  As they say, ask and you shall receive and through what I believe as divine intervention, I was given a beautiful shirt with a drawing of four dogs sitting on a couch.  The portrait was titled "Rescued".  Ahhhh purrr-fect!
